"I want to make art for and with people who are hungry for it.

I begin by being hungry for it too.

It’s made without a recipe. It’s made in each moment by looking in the pantry at what I have, starting with what’s simple, cheap, and common, choosing ingredients carefully, daringly throwing them together, using the basic skills I have and then going beyond them, passing the spoon for you to taste, making a mess, letting things cook, sometimes burn, sometimes serving things raw, starting over, asking for advice, celebrating what you brought from your garden, letting you cook for a while, lingering over the pot, smelling, stirring, and sharing it together.

There is always a surprise.

The best cooks are not gorged and content. They are ravenous. That’s where I start, trying to feed myself and anyone curious or hungry enough to pause and share what’s in the pot. This kind of work creates a space where everyone is asked to share. We share our time, our attention, our ideas, our differences, our talents, our tastes, bringing it all to the table and somehow leaving with more than we came with."
